Kaltra has made progress in the development of indirect evaporative cooling solution for data centers which will allow gaining power usage effectiveness (PUE) values as low as 1.025.
Air handlers can be installed above the data center whitespace so that the discharged air will flow directly to cold aisles. The air exhausted to the hot aisles will be sucked back to the air handler.
An alternate design will allow installation of the air handler sideways to the whitespace so that conditioned air will be delivered directly to the underfloor space. In both designs, the scavenge air inlet and outlet are placed on the same side of the unit.
Mechanical cooling module (direct expansion or chilled water) that allows the cooling capacity to be topped up in extreme temperature conditions, will be available as an option. Adiabatic cooling subsystem can be packaged with skid-mounted water treatment module which ensures the water purity.
Crossflow air-to-air heat exchangers used in air handler design manufactured from composite materials that make them resistant to corrosion and leak tight. Fresh air admixture option will provide overpressure in the whitespace of the data center and can act as a smoke-extractor.
The product is expected to be available in mid-2016.
