OVERVIEW

Low-GWP blend for new and retrofit systems

R449a is a mixture of common hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) and new hydrofluoro-olefin molecule R1234yf (HFO), a composition of R32 (24%), R125 (25%), R134a (26%), and R1234yf (25%) gases. Refrigerant R449a is non-toxic and non-flammable and has been assigned A1 safety classification under EN 378 and ASHRAE 34 standards. Chlorine is not present in R449a, and consequently, it has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP). Its Global Warming Potential (1397) is 64% respectively lower than R404a.

 

R449a is suitable for new installations as well as for retrofit of existing systems, offering improved energy efficiency and environmental properties.

Refrigerant R449a can replace R404a in medium temperature indirect refrigeration systems with only minor system modifications because of its close thermodynamic properties and maximum discharge temperature. Changes will only include an adjustment of expansion device and 4% increase of refrigerant charge.
