Kaltra has added heat recovery to the latest generation of its air-cooled chillers
Production of domestic hot water is now possible with Kaltra’s last-generation air-cooled chillers fitted with desuperheaters, including ranges with scroll and screw compressors. Optimized-flow heat exchanger installed in between compressors and condenser coils and acting as a desuperheater offer heating duty of up to 30% of chiller’s cooling capacity in hot water supply temperature range from 30°C to 60°C.
Desuperheaters extracting sensible heat from refrigerant gas are brazed-plate heat exchangers. Hot water temperature control allows regulation of condensing pressure based on heating demand, thus contributing to the higher efficiency of the system at partial heating loads.
The first installation of Lightstream Screw II chillers with heat recovery and running on refrigerant R1234ze has been commissioned in the UK for one of the country’s leading plastic injection molders based in Leicester. This new cooling plant serves the company’s needs spanning 5ºC for process cooling to 50ºC for domestic hot water while maintaining efficiency over the entire operating range.
Heat recovery option is available for chillers running on refrigerants R134a, R450a, R513a, R1234ze (screw compressors), and R410a, R32, R452b, R454b (scroll compressors) with cooling duty range 250-1850kW.
