Mistral-W dry/wet cooler

Redesigned hybrid cooler to be unveiled in Q4 2024

Adiabatic cooling solutions offer superior thermal performance and allow operation at ambients higher than process fluid temperatures. However, the downsides of adiabatic systems are substantial water consumption and high initial costs.

A novel heat exchanger wetting solution deployed in a range of hybrid coolers recently engineered by Kaltra solves the drawbacks inherent in adiabatic/evaporative coolers.

Heat exchanger wetting is carried by gravity-fed water flow. Unique fin surface geometry ensures uniform wetting over the heat exchanger area. This approach provides several advantages not found in traditional adiabatic solutions based on water spraying or the use of evaporative pads:

  • Low water consumption: water is collected and pumped for iterated wetting of the heat exchanger surface
  • No additional air pressure drop is created compared to systems with evaporative pads
  • EVAP II design eliminates additional equipment and parts (pads, spray nozzles, pipework, etc.), making it inexpensive but efficient
  • Minimum maintenance required

Optionally, heat exchangers can be supplied with anti-corrosion treatment (e-coating) ensuring the long lifespan of the cooler and the use of untreated tap water for wetting.

A specialized controller with an air temperature sensor allows automatic switching between dry and wet operating modes.

New hybrid coolers are based on Mistral-W series dry coolers and incorporate models with 4 to 18 fans driven by EC motors. Options include factory wiring, fan speed controllers, a dedicated electrical panel, pumping for wetting water, and more. By request, stainless steel heat exchangers can be installed.
